What is Dental Implant?
Dental implants provide an excellent alternative to dentures and conventional bridges for the replacement of missing teeth. A dental implant is a Titanium or Zirconia screw surgically placed into the jaw bone. It acts as artificial ‘‘root’’ that secures a new crown.
We use Implants for a variety of purposes including replacement of single teeth, stabilisation of dentures and fixed bridges. Treatment is typically 4-6months (complex cases can take longer).
The procedures are usually carried out under local anaesthetic. Implant therapy enjoys good success rates and patient satisfaction is high. The life span of implants is directly related to good maintenance. Treat Implants like natural teeth, tooth brushing twice a day and using interdental brushes in-between to maintain good oral hygiene. We advise you to continue with regular hygienist appointments every 3-6 months and a yearly check-up with your dentist where X-rays monitor your bone levels around your implant.
